Toyota GT86 with an updated audio system that supports Apple CarPlay.
Many of you, of course, dream of a car stereo with a large screen, often running on the Android platform. However, our experience shows that the most reliable, stable and adequate are branded devices such as Pioneer, Kenwood, JVC and Alpine. All these car stereos are equipped with support for Apple Carplay and Android Auto. If you ask us what is preferable – a branded car stereo with CarPlay or Android with a large screen, we cannot give preference to one of the sides. Both options have their advantages. However, for ourselves, we would choose Pioneer.
We received a Toyota GT86, which was equipped with a multimedia system, but its capabilities were very limited. We suggested installing a branded Pioneer car radio, which in our opinion should ideally fit into the car’s interior.
LIST OF ACCESSORIES FOR INSTALLING AND CONNECTING PIONEER IN TOYOTA:
- Adapter frame for installation of radio CARAV 11-039
- Adapter for connecting steering wheel buttons and radio connector Connects2 CTSTY002.2
- Antenna adapter CARAV 13-011
- USB extension cable CARAV 17-001
A kit for replacing the standard Toyota GT radio has been assembled. The key stage is installing the housing of the new radio into the dashboard space. As you know, a heavy metal housing cannot simply be in the air, relying only on the attachment points of the front panel. In practice, we use metal side panels that provide reliable fastening of the car radio housing along the entire perimeter.
To complete the installation of the radio in the dashboard, you need to connect the Connects2 CTSTY002.2 steering wheel button adapter, after making sure that all functions work correctly. We mounted the USB port for connecting the smartphone cable so that CarPlay works in the center console area – for this we used a specific extension cord. You may wonder what the CARAV 17-001 USB adapter is for and in what situations it can be used. Let me explain: this USB adapter is designed to connect the USB cable of the radio to the corresponding cable of the car in a place convenient for you. In the Toyota GT model, we installed the CARAV 17-001 adapter in the center console area, having previously made a hole in the plastic covering.
We came to this final result:
