The standard JBL car audio is usually the ultimate dream for most Toyota Camry V70 owners – much better, say the owners of these cars. And only a few connoisseurs of good music understand that they were fooled by the manufacturer, placing the brand’s nameplate on frankly trivially cheap speakers and an amplifier. As they say, there is no accounting for taste, but trust our experience – standard car audio, even the most famous and premium, is a scam. Toyota Camry V70 is a popular car and a frequent guest in our studio. Basically, most cars come with a basic audio system, but this car came with a “premium” JBL audio system. What is the difference in the sound of such an audio system compared to the basic one? It has a more pronounced bass due to the standard subwoofer, and the midrange and high frequencies sound slightly better due to full-fledged midrange speakers and tweeters, although they are of low quality. We would estimate this difference at 20-30% better. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We discussed possible options with the client in advance and settled on a specific budget – $2,000. I’ll say right away that we went a little over budget, but it was worth it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

JBL Toyota Camry V70 Standard Car Audio<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A little about the standard JBL audio system. Three-component front: tweeters in the racks, midrange in the dashboard, 6*9″ midbass speakers in the front doors. 16.5 cm midbass speakers in the rear doors. A 25 cm subwoofer speaker in the rear shelf. And a JBL amplifier under the driver’s seat. All of the above looks like this: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naturally, we completely change all the acoustics, do audio preparation of the doors and rear shelf, and most importantly, install a processor amplifier with channel-by-channel connection of speakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let’s start with noise and vibration insulation of the doors, a very important step when installing a new audio system, especially for Toyota, where vibration insulation in the doors is generally absent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acoustics is one of the most important components of the audio system. Our budget was limited, so we selected the optimal set for the budget. We installed Audison AP 690 midbass speakers in the front doors through spacer rings that are attached to the standard points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the midrange and high frequencies we used Focal components with their signature bright sound. They were also installed in regular places with the manufacture of the necessary adapters, without redesigning the interior. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also install a coaxial kit from Focal Performance line – PC 165 in the rear doors. Thanks to the spacers for Toyota, the speaker is securely attached to the standard points, without new door holes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And how could we do without a subwoofer? Often, customers who have regular places or regular cases do not want to give them up so as not to take up useful space in the trunk, and I understand them. Here we also used the factory place. Instead of the regular funny JBL subwoofer speaker, we installed a higher-quality and more powerful ETON ET-M10FLAT subwoofer. What do we have as a tool that controls our system? A ten-channel processor amplifier Musway D8, which has 8 amplification channels and 2 linear outputs to the subwoofer amplifier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I wrote earlier, we have a fully channeled front (6 channels) + rear (2 channels) + sub (linear outputs of the processor). In total, the new audio system has 9 speakers. As an amplifier for the subwoofer, we chose the most compact amplifier Musway P2, which was placed next to the main one under the driver’s seat. Thus, the interior also remained unchanged and there is no clutter of equipment in the trunk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the case of Toyota and Lexus cars, if there is a standard amplifier, it cannot be removed without replacing the head unit. Accordingly, we leave the standard amplifier and install the new one after it, “on the second floor”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the installation of new equipment and assembly of the car was completed, we checked the functionality of all components and configured the audio processor. As a result, we received a sound that gives new bright and unique emotions when listening to your favorite tracks. When handing over the car to the owner, we also listened to it together and made adjustments to the settings taking into account the client’s wishes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
