How to improve car audio in Volvo S90 without all the money in the world.

A brand new 2019 Volvo S90, the owner of which is absolutely satisfied with everything in the car, except… as always, of course, the standard sound. The standard Volvo sound is not much different from the music in other cars. Everything is sluggish, dull and sad.
Well, like most owners of new cars, the owner of this Volvo S90 was also not eager to spend a decent budget on music, much less make changes to the noble interior of the car. We wanted it to be reasonable, without alterations and with the maximum result – and that’s exactly what we know how to do))
To get the best result with a minimal budget, it is important to choose the right speakers (I wrote about the right speakers in our article “How to improve the sound in a car”). Hand-made speakers straight from Italy have just arrived to our showroom, after listening to different sets at the stand, the owner of Volvo chose this Italian brand PHD and was right, because in the end we ourselves were impressed by what the youngest line PHD CF is capable of – this is what we recommend to replace the standard acoustics (we installed 16 cm PHD CF 6.1 speakers).
How to Improve Volvo S90 Car Audio

So, in this car everything was like this:
- Sound source – factory head unit

- At the front (and it is three-way in the Volvo S90) – a two-component set PHD CF 6.1 + midrange speakers Hertz MP 70.3
- On the rear – two-component set Hertz CK 165
Such a simple system, but it sounds amazingly good in this particular car.

All speakers are installed in standard places, without any modifications to the interior, using professional plastic spacer rings (they do not rot, unlike those made of plywood).
This is what the installation looks like from the inside:

The Hertz MP 70.3 center pieces are installed into the door panel via a custom spacer ring.

I only managed to take pictures of the middle parts for comparison, but from them it is clear that the standard Volvo speakers have a primitive cardboard-plastic design with a conventional magnet:

The rear speakers are also in their standard places, everything is neat, without any alterations:

The final conclusion is this – the sound is surprisingly clean and cheerful and, of course, much better than the factory one. We are calm about the mood of the Volvo S90 owner))
