Car stereo for Audi Q5 2013

A client approached us with a request to replace the outdated factory head unit with a more modern one. Since the vehicle was already equipped with factory cameras, we determined that our task was simply to replace the stock monitor.

As usual, we proposed several options. Each of the options had its own pros and cons. We believe that the downsides of car head units generally relate to either specifications or price. The Audi Q5 owner hesitated a bit but ultimately chose a very solid option. But let’s take things in order.

What we proposed

We proposed several options. Typically, car head units differ only in specifications—such as RAM and processor—but in this case, there was an additional factor: the hazard warning button. In the factory setup, the button is located to the right of the display. We offered two options for the new unit: one with a 9-inch screen where the button remains on the right, and another with a 10–12-inch screen where the button is relocated to the bottom.

Ultimately, the client had to choose both the specifications and the appearance of their future car stereo. They settled on the option with the larger screen. Consequently, the hazard warning button was relocated to a position below the display. All of this is clearly visible in the “before and after” photos.

How it was before replacing the factory head unit in the 2013 Audi Q5

The factory-installed Audi Concert system in the 2013 Q5 offers limited modern multimedia features. It supports radio, CD playback, music from SD cards, and AUX input, while Bluetooth is primarily used for phone calls. Navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are absent. It is hardly surprising that a vehicle of this model year is a prime candidate for a head unit upgrade.

On the surface, everything looks decent enough—the factory monitor even offers a glimmer of hope regarding functionality—but in practice, it is a thoroughly outdated device that is practically begging to be replaced.

New car stereo for 2013 Audi Q5

In our opinion, the new head unit with such a large screen has made the 2013 Audi Q5 look about ten years younger. It’s not just that the system’s functionality has expanded—with the addition of CarPlay, for instance—but the dashboard’s appearance has also been significantly transformed.
