“Budget Car Audio for the 2021 Peugeot 5008” — that’s what we titled this article, though we could have called it something else. How do you bring a smile to the face of a Peugeot 5008 owner after installing new speakers and a subwoofer? Curious? Then read on!
The owner of a 2021 Peugeot 5008 contacted us, looking to upgrade the vehicle’s factory audio system. His car was equipped with the base audio setup (not the Focal system). He described the sound as “flat” and “plasticky,” noting a particular lack of bass—he felt as though the bass was completely missing. He also compared it to his previous car, a Renault Talisman with a standard factory audio system, which had sounded much better.
The request was to upgrade the stock audio system in a 2021 Peugeot 5008 without replacing the factory head unit or making any structural modifications to the vehicle. The client specified a modest budget and wanted to fit a subwoofer into the recess beneath the rear passenger seats—even providing photos and measurements for this purpose:
However, we felt there was too little space there, so we proposed our own option. Here is what we proposed (the exact text of our reply to the client):
Good afternoon. Unfortunately, there are no hidden spots for a subwoofer. Therefore, a good option is a compact active enclosure subwoofer placed in the trunk; it can easily be removed if you need more space. It connects to the factory head unit. For the front speakers, we recommend the French brand Blam, which offers vibrant mid and high frequencies. There are two options: the 165es (6,700 UAH) and the sr165s (10,000 UAH). You will also need mounting rings (1,100 UAH). Installation of the speakers and subwoofer costs 6,900 UAH, and the wiring costs 1,800 UAH. The subwoofer itself costs 12,000 UAH. It is also recommended—though not mandatory—to soundproof the front doors; the cost for both doors is 8,000 UAH.

The situation with the speakers turned out to be interesting. This was our first time working on this particular vehicle; for some reason, owners of this specific make don’t often come to us for audio upgrades. So, when we dismantled the doors, we discovered that the factory speaker had a very shallow mounting depth. We were concerned: would the new speaker fit in the factory location? And would we achieve high-quality mid-bass sound?
As shown in the photo, the height of the stock speaker spacer ring is just 4 cm, and there is only a couple of centimeters of clearance for the magnet inside the door. Despite our concerns, the 165es speakers fit perfectly. We manufactured the spacer rings ourselves using a 3D printer.

Even though the plan was for a budget-friendly audio setup for the 2021 Peugeot 5008, our expectations remained quite high. That is why we insisted on soundproofing the doors—specifically the two where the new speakers were installed. This made a significant difference to the overall sound quality.
After dismantling the door of the 2021 Peugeot 5008, we weren’t surprised to see bare metal and a complete absence of even a hint of sound insulation.
So, we rectified this. We used three layers: two layers of vibration damping material and one layer of sound-absorbing material. The final result impacts not only acoustic comfort but also the quality of the car audio system.
The client was very pleased! For a modest price, it became possible to truly enjoy music in the car.
