Car audio for the Chevrolet Camaro – vibrant music for a vibrant convertible

Our studio was tasked with creating a new car audio system for a Chevrolet Camaro. The car’s owner asked us to create a relatively affordable, yet high-quality sound system, considering its design (it’s a convertible), that would make the heart sing and the soul rejoice.

The manufacturer has adopted a classic setup: a two-way front speaker system with coaxial rear speakers. This is definitely not enough for a convertible, given the quality of the stock speakers. The stock speakers have never yet impressed us with powerful and detailed reproduction of the entire frequency range.
As you can see below, the front speakers are 6×9-inch oval midbass speakers and full-range speakers (the midbass speakers are located in the doors, and the midbass speakers are in the dashboard under the windshield). The rear speakers are 16 cm in size and are located in the rear side panels.

What did we suggest to the Chevrolet Camaro owner to improve the stock audio system? Two sets of speakers from the French brand Blam: component speakers with oval midbass speakers for the front (to maximize low frequencies) and 16 cm coaxial speakers for the rear. And to ensure the new car audio system was loud, bright, and detailed, we suggested installing a four-channel amplifier from the German brand Ground Zero.
Chevrolet Camaro speakers
Before installing speakers into the standard Chevrolet Camaro locations, you need to prepare them for the new speakers:
- For the tweeters, we made plastic spacers to compensate for the space left by the factory wideband speaker.
- For the midbass speakers, we made audio preparation of the doors (soundproofing of the doors) and mounted spacers under the speakers for reliable installation of the new midbass speaker in the standard location.

And here is the prepared door:

The Blam tweeter in its stock location looks like it was installed directly by the Chevrolet Camaro factory:

Amplifier for Chevrolet Camaro
We found a spot for the amplifier under the rear passenger seats. We fabricated a platform, secured it to the car body using the factory mounting points, and then mounted the amplifier on the platform.
