Replacing speakers in Lexus ES 250 2020
In this article, we will tell you about a fairly simple upgrade of the factory audio system in a 2020 Lexus ES 250. The request was banal – to slightly improve the sound in the car without large financial investments. We determined the budget with the client and proposed replacing the front speakers at the first stage. That is, we implemented this project as a budget car audio.
I’ll tell you a little about the standard audio system in this car. It’s not Mark Levinson, but a basic audio system for the business class. There are 9 cm coaxial speakers in the dashboard, and there is a central channel. There are 18 cm midbass speakers in the front doors. Midrange speakers are installed in the rear doors. There is a 25 cm subwoofer speaker in the rear shelf. And this entire set of speakers is connected to an amplifier. This is not the first Lexus in which we see such a cut-down version of the audio system. Earlier, we talked about the Lexus NX350h and Lexus LX 600, which have space for speakers, but instead of the speakers themselves, there are plugs.
Summarizing the information about the standard audio system – it sounds sluggish, there is practically no bass. Although the system has a subwoofer, the mid and high frequencies are also very inexpressive. The car audio in this car is as if covered by a screen. There is no clear stage, although there is a central channel. Often, car manufacturers try to create the right sound picture with its help, which also does not help much.
So, the first stage of improving the car audio of the 2020 Lexus ES 250 is replacing the acoustics. In the door, we decided to install a set of midbass Focal IS 690 TOY. A good proven solution. These speakers have high sensitivity and good bass. Just what you need for a simple replacement of the standard acoustics.
In the dashboard we chose and installed a set of broadband acoustics Blam LFR 52. An excellent set for its money, which has a very bright and precise sound both at medium and high frequencies. In cars in which this size (2 inches) can be installed, we definitely recommend it.
To mount the middles, we made transition rings and fixed them in the regular places. No change in the interior, but the sound eventually became better and brighter, frequencies appeared that the regular speakers played very blurry.
From further recommendations on this car. Of course, installation of a processor amplifier with per-channel connection of speakers. Noise and vibration insulation of doors.
