Nissan Ariya. New audio system with Alpine processor amplifier.

Another electric car in our car audio studio. And once again, the owner is unhappy with the stock sound. There’s no bass at all, the midrange is flat—bass is a familiar issue, and we’ll fix it in three days. Frankly, Nissan Ariyas have been coming to our studio a lot lately, and we suspect this is due to the extremely poor factory sound.

The new audio system’s configuration had already been tested in previous cars and approved by owners. Therefore, we didn’t invent anything new.

  • For speakers, we chose our favorite sets from Focal’s Performance line. The front speakers are Focal PS 165SF, and the rear speakers are Focal PC 165FE. The well-proven Ground Zero GZUF 60SQ-A full-range speakers are also included in the dashboard.
  • As for the amplifier, we have a new product – the Alpine PXE-C80-88 8-channel processor amplifier, made in Japan, which is a rarity these days.
  • ESX VS1100P subwoofer in the standard place in the trunk.

SPEAKERS FOR NISSAN ARIYA

As usual, we prepare the doors for sound (vibration and noise insulation) and install new speakers using plastic spacers.

To avoid a long explanation of the fairly standard process of installing speakers in the factory locations of a Nissan Ariya, we’ll simply show the finished result, which won’t be visible after the car is assembled. These are the front doors:

These are midrange speakers in the standard locations in the dashboard (we explain in detail why we choose midrange speakers in these cars in our videos about car audio for the Nissan Ariya).

Here is an example of a factory-made rear door and its door panel after treatment with sound-absorbing material from the Ukrainian manufacturer STK.

Processor amplifier for Nissan Ariya

As usual, we install the amplifier discreetly in the trunk under a foam stand, taking up no usable space. The power cable is routed through the standard cable channels along the car’s sills to the 12V battery under the hood, protected by a fuse for safety.

Let’s take a closer look at this amplifier. It has eight output channels: six 50W into 4 ohms and two 150W into 4 ohms. As usual, the processor allows you to connect speakers individually. There are full-range speakers, mid-bass speakers in the front doors, and coaxial speakers in the rear doors. We have a passive dual-coil subwoofer, which we feed the signal from the remaining two channels with increased power.

The Alpine PXE-C80-88 kit includes a Bluetooth module with Hi-Res Audio support (allows you to transmit an audio signal to the processor without going through the head unit, which always provides better sound quality than through the head unit), as well as a remote control for adjusting the volume of the system, subwoofer, and switching presets (settings).

The BT module is located near the amplifier, and the remote control is installed near the gear selector. This location was chosen to minimize interference with the interior and, if desired, to be easily removed without leaving traces of installation.

SUBWOOFER FOR NISSAN ARIYA

As mentioned above, we always install the subwoofer in these cars in the spare tire well in the trunk. This is a tried-and-true option for many cars, and it’s more than adequate for the Nissan Ariya.

And this is what the trunk looks like, with both the subwoofer and the processor amplifier already installed, although you’re unlikely to see anything from the outside:
