Nissan Ariya stock car audio replacement – Electrosila Kyiv car audio studio

Improving the sound in cars we’ve never worked on before is a special pleasure! Why? It’s simple – it keeps us from getting bored. It’s true, when you build many similar audio systems in similar cars, where everything is clear and familiar, it becomes routine. No, the interest and enthusiasm don’t wane, but the thirst for new experiences and knowledge always reignites the professional fire within.
So, the owner of a Nissan Ariya electric car contacted us, asking for an upgrade to the factory sound. Ideally, before configuring a new audio system, we’d like to listen to the problem being addressed.

After listening to the Nissan Ariya’s stock audio system, we can say that music sounds flat, with no bass or highs. It’s clear why: the stock speakers look tame, primitive, and very cheap. It’s no wonder the owner isn’t happy listening to music with such a lackluster sound.
WHAT WE SUGGESTED TO IMPROVE THE NISSAN ARIYA’S CAR AUDIO
We offered two options (as is common for us, sometimes we offer three options, which usually differ not only in configuration but also in price, so you have a choice):
1. The first option is to replace the acoustics, sound and vibration insulation of the doors, and install an active subwoofer.
2. The second option is to add a processor amplifier and full-range speakers instead of tweeters to the first option.

In this case, the customer chose the first option with the option to upgrade to the second option later. By the way, at the end of this article, you’ll find a detailed review from a Nissan Ariya owner, where he described his impressions—oh, the writing is amazing. Also at the end of the article, you’ll find our video showing another Nissan Ariya, where we implemented the second option for upgrading the factory sound with a processor amplifier.
SPEAKERS FOR NISSAN ARIYA
What equipment did we suggest? The speakers were two luxurious sets from the French brand Focal, from the Slatefiber series. We also chose an interesting subwoofer for the spare tire well.
We also have a listening session of the Focal Slatefiber PS165SF speakers on our YouTube channel, where we compare them with another Focal set from the Flax series:
Let’s move on. After disassembling the doors, we found nothing surprising—the usual cardboard and plastic speakers found in all modern cars. The mid-bass is located below the doors—it should be angled toward the interior, but that’s just the way it is.

Made in China, this classic plug is designed to produce sounds – otherwise, you can’t describe a GTAT speaker.

The tweeters are well-positioned – in the dashboard under the windshield, using reflections from the glass. At first glance, the grilles are easily removed, just like in Toyota, giving access to the tweeters. But not this time. It turns out the dash contains full-range speakers, but they play the tweeter’s frequency range, are very highly filtered (at 6 kHz), and accessing them required a fair amount of disassembly of the dashboard. While one might be upset that Nissan engineers did this, the removal is quite quick and painless.

We installed the Focal tweeters in their original locations using adapter rings. We secured everything to the original mounting points.

We decided to show, as an example, what the new PHD Studio 2.5 WMT broadband speakers would look like if installed in their standard locations if we were implementing the second version of the system.

NISSAN ARIYA DOOR SOUNDPROOFING
Modern cars have very poor vibration insulation, regardless of their price range. The stock soundproofing in the Nissan Ariya is no exception; the vibration insulation sheets are not properly applied and are already falling off after only a short period of use.

We used ACOUSTICS XTREME’s top-of-the-line materials to insulate the doors for maximum mid-bass performance. The door panels were sealed with ACOUSTICS SoundWave 15 sound absorber.
The midbass speakers are also installed on plastic speaker spacers for the Nissan Carav 14-007, which are more reliable and durable and are not affected by moisture, which is constantly present inside the door.

SUBWOOFER FOR NISSAN ARIYA
The subwoofer in this system is an active EMPHASER EBS111A. It fits perfectly into the raised floor niche and looks like a factory solution. The photo shows the before and after.

I think you might be interested in watching our video review of the Emphaser EBS108A subwoofer (this is the same model we chose for the Nissan Ariya):
And what’s the end result? Bass has definitely improved, and it’s completely transformed the musical experience. High frequencies have become brighter and more vibrant, the midbass delivers a powerful punch, and the overall sound has been significantly transformed, bringing new emotions to the owner of this car. Meanwhile, the interior remains unchanged; everything remains in its original form.

What would we recommend to make the system even better and, as a result, deliver an even more intense experience? We’d add a processor amplifier, implement channel-by-channel speaker connections, and replace the tweeters with full-range speakers. Then the car would really shine. But even though we settled on the first option, check out this review from a Nissan Ariya owner:
